Dual Diagnosis
What is dual diagnosis?
A client challenged by both an addiction to alcohol or drugs, as well as a mental health concern is said to have a dual diagnosis (dual disorder). In order to recover fully, the client needs treatment for both issues. Integrated dual disorders treatment has been shown to work effectively for clients with both disorders. In this treatment model, one treatment team provides both mental health and substance abuse treatment services. Most clients with dual disorders can achieve recovery. The probability of recovery improves when receiving integrated dual disorders treatment.
What is integrated dual disorder treatment?
It is a method of combining treatment for mental health concerns and for substance use. The approach utilizes a treatment team, which will address several topics while the client is with Costa Rica New Hope:
·Counseling and education to consider the role of alcohol and drugs in the client's life. This will be done confidentially, one-on-one, and without any negative consequences. Clients feel free to discuss these issues in the non-judgmental setting of individual counseling sessions.
·Education to learn more about the effects of alcohol and drugs, and how they interact with mental illness.
·Encouragement to become involved with support groups and other services that may help recovery.
·Help in identifying and developing a treatment plan and goals. The counselor works with the client to customize the treatment, step by step.
·Individual counseling is emphasized. However, if deemed helpful, therapy may include support groups, family counseling, or a combination of the above.
·Costa Rica New Hope will do everything possible to help each client build a positive life without alcohol or drugs, and with a more balanced sense of emotional and mental wellbeing.
We understand that for most people, the journey of recovery includes meaningful activities: support of family and loved ones, a satisfying job, friendships with people who do not use alcohol or drugs, a safe place to live, and enjoyable, relaxing, and healthy leisure activities. This all takes time. Never give up and remember we are here for you.
