Men and Women
Women and men often face different challenges in confronting addiction.
In general, women may have experienced more emotional, physical, and sexual abuse. They also report higher incidence of physical and mental difficulties, such as eating disorders, depression and trauma due to domestic violence.
Men in turn, may struggle with stereotypes that encourage drinking. Also, many men learn to assert themselves by expressing their feelings through anger, violence or sex.
With this in mind, Costa Rica New Hope emphasizes one-on-one therapy. While clients may interact with one another, we view the treatment process as each client's individual journey to insight and healing.
